Sangkuriang

Year 2025 A.D.

A boy called Sangkuriang was born. His parents hopes him to became a very successful person in the future. As they are living in poverty, they want his son to became an academic person that can changes their lives and peoples. But one day, his father, missing while working at the quarry. And then Sangkuriang only live with his mother and his pet dog, Tumang.

Year 2039

One day, they really need food to eat and there are not much money left, so Dayang Sumbi, Sangkuriang's mother, asked him to hunt with his dog. He took out his crossbow and went hunting.

After hours and hours of hunting they didn't manage to catch an animal so Sangkuriang tried to shot his own dog. But then, he sensed something different.

He looked downhill and saw a quarry which his father was working to, and it seems he find nothing but extractor equipments and things. But it was feel different until he saw a paper that stuck on one of the equipments. His curiousity took him over and then he proceeds downhill and look at the paper which stuck on that equipment. Then he realised that the paper was a letter for him and his mother. The paper was covered in black thingy, he thinks that it was an ink which fell on the paper. Nevertheless, it didn't stop Sangkuriang to read the letter.

“Sangkuriang, Dayang Sumbi, I'm sorry that I cannot go home for number of reasons, I need to go somewhere far away and maybe you won't find me again. Love, your dad”

As he read the letter, he shivers while he looking at it. It was a letter that written for him and his mother. But he didn't even know who wrote it nor place it there. He thinks that his father was in danger. But he more scared when he read the bottomest part of the letter.

“(| |_| 4 12 12 Y V4|_| |_ t”

“What is it? I don't even know this” said Sangkuriang.

His dog then sniff out the letter and proceeds running inside the quarry's office, Sangkuriang then followed him tight. Until he found something that he must not see. An office room but with scattered blood all over the place but no bodies have been found. The room is like an office room but without cells. All of the computer has been shot and no one can use it any more. Empty bullet cartridges anywhere on the room, and you can see that all of the windows on that office have ruptured. He even saw a knife, covered in blood. Sangkuriang was frightened and shivers, but his dog pull him to other way. To the Quarry's Vault.

“What is this? A door? A very big door?”

he looked at the big and thick door, designed so nobody cannot barge in without a key. The door is shaped circle and coloured black. It was half open when Sangkuriang came there.

“Maybe dad was here” said Sangkuriang.

Then he open the door and saw something, a table, a very big table and money lockers that all have been emptied. Nothing inside the vault but the table and money lockers. No blood, no scattering bullets, no bodies. Even though he was hesitated to go inside but finally he walked inside the vault slowly, to the direction of the table. There are not many things on the table, the lockers are locked, but then he looked at something that interest him, a cellphone.

He looked at the cellphone. The rectangle-shaped black cellphone make him curious. But something is wrong..

The screen turned on while he touch the screen, then he read a text that displayed on it.

“Wait until the day, young man, you'll know it someday”

then he tried to unlock the phone but he cannot. There are something written on the lock screen

“2043/09/02”

“Wait, do I really need to wait for that long?” he said to himself.

His dog, Tumang, found a bag of money underneath the table and give it to Sangkuriang.

“Bad dog! Don't take that money, that's not our money!”

But then he saw a paper that stuck on that money bag.

“For you Sangkuriang, love dad”

“Well, I think it's for us” said Sangkuriang.

Then he took that bag of money and went back home, his mother was surprised when he brought that bag of money, but he's more surprised seeing his mother surrounded by big and muscular men, whose sent by somebody to collect debts. Yes, Sangkuriang's father left a big debt for them, soon as he's missing the debt automatically inherited to his family.

“No, Sangkuriang, don't come here!” shout his mother

“Just go away! Run! Fast!” she said to him

The debt collectors saw Sangkuriang brought something, the money bag.

“What is this Kiddo?” asked one of the debt collectors.

“A.. A money, sir”

“Your lucky day kiddo, let me see how much it is” he said.

The debt collectors count the money, and then he looked at Sangkuriang

Sangkuriang was frightened but he cannot go anywhere, his body was frozen by the debt collectors' eyes. The eyes of a murderer. He want to cry but he can't, then the debt collector took out his bloody knife and pointing it at Sangkuriang's mother. But then, he said something.

“This is the right amount for this month, Dayang. Say thank you to your little kiddo over there”

said the debt collectors' leader. Then he went away with his comrades.

Then, Dayang asked Sangkuriang how he can brought that sum of money. He explains everything and then Dayang said something that broke Sangkuriang's feeling.

“Son, dad inherited debt after he's missing and nowhere to be found. Son, use this money and buy a ticket to Space station. Seek for work and academics there. Seek for your happiness, my lovely son.” said Dayang Sumbi, she's crying and asked him to go to the space port tomorrow morning

Tomorrow morning, Sangkuriang packing all of his things and said goodbye to his mother and his dog, Tumang. Then he rode a bus to the space port. He look at the spaceships which came and gone, bringing new cargo and people who wants to live at the space inside a space station. The spaceships was quite big and interesting, but he was more interested with a normal life, which he never feel and he sometimes remember the good old times with his mother

He looking at the entrance, it was very high and beautiful. You can see beautifully stained glass with tulip pictures in it – a symbol of this city. Spaceships timetable hanging near a door to go inside, we can see peoples brought suitcases, some of them only brought backpack.

Sangkuriang went to ticket counter and bought himself a ticket to “Himmel Space Station”, one of the space station that provides everything to live there,

But then something interest him, a young man sat with his suitcases and he didn't look liked somebody who only seek for life at space station, he looked like a worker. That man wore a jumpsuit and brought big suitcases Then Sangkuriang walk to him and asking some questions.

“Mister? Can I ask you about things?” Sangkuriang said

“Maybe yes, go on, ask it young boy” that man said.

“What is your name, sir?”

“Me? I'm Malin Kundang, nice to meet you”

“Nice to meet you too, sir”

“just call me by my name, I'm not that old”

“oh sorry, but where you will go”

“Mars, I have a promise to my mother, when a came back to her, I'm already rich. We were living in poverty, if you're curious” said Malin Kundang, then he took a cigarette and lit it with his lighter.

Then they part ways, while Malin would go to the Mars, Sangkuriang only want to go to the Himmel Space Station. They went to different door.

Sangkuriang, later studied in the space station. A very big space station that have educational institutes and working place. It also have rooms for you to live. Sangkuriang studied industrial design and works part-time with his mentor for years. Until, something happened.

2053/09/02

The old cellphone ringing, in the very morning of the day. Sangkuriang, who was 28 now, woke up from the alarm rang by the cellphone. Then he went to silence the phone. But it's not his phone, it's old phone from 4 years ago, from the time when he was seeing a horrific place. While scared, he unlocked the phone and then he looked at something that very frightening him. An old photograph of his dad and mother. Then he looked the notification on the phone, a new message, from 14 years ago. Then he read it.

“Sangkuriang, now is the time for you to know about something that happened on that day”

and then he scrolled down to see anything else. But there are no other things. He looked up everything but there are nothing.

The day after tomorrow he went home with his spaceship, his own spaceship. He was a successful designer and he graduated with master degree. He brought things that he taught is important. But his curiousity made him very anxious..

after he came out from his spaceship, he rode a bus to his home, but something is different. His house was burnt to ash. He went looking at it but nothing has been found. Until he found something that really shocked him, a letter.

He opened and then read the letter

“Quarry”

Only one word, and then he remembered everything about what happened in the quarry, shattered blood, bullet casings, and the phone itself. Now is the time for him to know the answers of that things. He took his motorcycle and went to the quarry, alone.

He looked at the quarry, that now has become a very big amusement park. Some says that the quarry ran out of business around ten years ago, and nothing left on the quarry right now. Sangkuriang, checks his phone and a message appeared on the screen.

'Go to the mirror'

“What is this? I.. I don't even know” he said

he wandering the place until he found a place called “Mirror Hall”

“I reckon this is the place” he said

Then he went into the Mirror Hall, he calmly walked but very nervous to go inside. His hand were trembling and he's sweating a lot. But he still walks firmly and ready to charge the problems head-on.

He went inside the Mirror Hall, and the first thing he look is a red arrow, pointing to a certain direction. Then he walked as the arrows point him, but in the end, there's a door. Red as blood with a key hanging from its lock. He open the door slowly and find something, that made him very scared.

A very big room, painted black and purple lamps hanging on the roof. The only thing he saw was his mother, Dayang Sumbi, tied into a chair. And a very big sword was hanging some inches from her head, held by chain. Frightened, Sangkuriang's feet were trambling fast and he can't said a single word. Then a big screen turned on, a very big screen behind his mother.

A picture of a man, appeared. The man was wearing a suit, overcoat, and black pants. We cannot see his face due to the light on the room where the man are didn't lit well. It's only illuminating his body, but not his head. The man, who was sitting on a chair, stand up and saying something to the viewer. Then the camera, focuses to his dark head, while he's standing.

“Sangkuriang, I would like, you, to do me a favor.” said the man

“Please, make me a ship, starship I mean. And I will free your mother after you've done”

“Really? How can I make the starship?” Asked Sangkuriang.

“Easy, we'll give you the thing you need. But I'll only give you a month to finish it”

“A Month! But how?”

“Recruit the men by yourselves, mate, I think you can do it” said the man.

After he think for a while, Sangkuriang only said one word

“OK”

Thanks to his connections with his colleagues, he recruited thousands of worker and went work together. He designed the ship alone. But it didn't took a long time to design one.

So you think he'll fail and loses his mother?

He succeed and passed the challenge in 28 days, but one thing that sangkuriang knew that the Man, was a escaped convict who murdered the people on the quarry's office after one of the man knew him. He was never caught but thanks to Sangkuriang's design, the starship didn't have a very powerful rocket to push the starship away so it was fall back to earth seconds after lift off. The convict was punished with life sentence and the starship were abandoned and became an abandoned ship. Sangkuriang then lived happily with his mother and wife. His dad? He now became the president of the amusement park. Sangkuriang and his family finally knew that he was disappeared to built a new business, but in the end, everything turns to a happy story, isn't it?
